NoBudge Revisited Playlist
A look back at some of our favorite short films from the early days of NoBudge, circa 2011 - 2013.
THE MUD
A woman ascends out of a mud pit disrupting a young couple living in a country home. The young couple takes her in, just like Pauly Shore & Sean Astin in Encino Man, and they teach her how to be human, beginning of course with how to sharpen a pencil. At first the stranger has a rejuvenating effect on the couple. They proudly teach her, as if she was their own child, to ride a bike. And then, as it does, sex enters the picture, and everything changes.
DEATH TO THE TINMAN
Bill loves Jane, the pastor's daughter. When Bill becomes a threat to the community, the pastor is forced to curse his ax. One of the most stylish & kinetic films of the true indie era. Made by Court 13, the team behind Beasts of the Southern Wild. Directed by Ray Tintori. Posted on NoBudge March 1st, 2013. (original release date 2007). (page link)
THE GAME STORE
A pitch black snapshot of the low life employees at a video game store directed by William Geradi. Offensive + unapologetic, delivered with assured self amusement. In the tradition of Michael Haneke & Harmony Korine.
THE RAMBLER
The Rambler is like a bandage applied to a wound that doesn’t quite stick; it is not the profuseness of the blood that’s important. It’s the terrible occurrence. “I’m taking you to Spokane,” announces the driver.
HOW TO CLEAN A CAST IRON PAN
A day in the life of Ahmed Khawaja.
