5 Questions with Hubert Adjei-Kontoh

1. Can you talk briefly about your background, and how you first got interested in filmmaking?

I was deeply interested in movies from adolescence, but I became obsessed with filmmaking when I went to college. I made a few shorts there, and after living in New York for a few years, I decided to make this movie.

2) What was the initial idea for this project and how did it evolve from there?

Peter Vack (the film's producer) was a regular at the coffee shop that I worked at. We ended up becoming friends, and he encouraged me to make a short. I came up with the idea of a person who fools himself into thinking that he's in a relationship, but who is actually perceived as an irritant by the person he is infatuated with.

3) What was the biggest challenge in making this film? And the easiest part?!

The biggest challenge was finding a crew, and the easiest part was finding locations.

4) What’s a film you’ve seen recently, new or old, that you really loved and why?

Arizona Dream. Emir Kusturica + Vincent Gallo is a winning combo.

5) What’s next for you?

I am writing a comedy.
