5 Questions with Rob Perri

1) Can you talk briefly about your background, and how you first got interested in filmmaking?

I'm originally from New York but live in Los Angeles now. Filmmaking has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. I've always been interested in the power of film, not only as a medium of artistic expression, but as a vehicle for transmitting ideas into people's minds.

2) What was the initial idea for this project and how did it evolve from there?

I'm fascinated by the way technology has rapidly begin to envelop us and I wanted to make something that made people question the idea of giving your destiny over to a machine intelligence. Also what type of technology are we creating and why? If an AI knew you better than you knew yourself and was gently guiding you towards the best version of you, would you listen to it?

3) What was the biggest challenge in making this film? And the easiest part?!

The biggest challenge was not having a crew. Shooting and directing and hauling all the lights and gear is not ideal. The easiest part was just the way it all came together. The right actors and locations seemed to show up just in the nick of time. There's was a lot of synchronicities that brought this thing together and that really made the difference.

4) What’s a film you’ve seen recently, new or old, that you really loved and why?

Rewatched Eyes Wide Shut recently and still think it's a masterpiece. Like all of Kubrick's films there's something new to discover with each viewing. The depth and symbolism open up a portal into the unconscious where infinite meaning can be derived.

5) What’s next for you?

I have several features that could use financing so I'm always actively seeking the right partners for those endeavors. Also pitching TV shows, shooting photographs, and building an app.
